日本九州是楠木最大的産地，各地神社都不難看到樹齡達2000年以上的大楠神木。日本九州香楠材質緻密，具有高耐濕、耐久的特性，日本九州香楠生長緩慢，需要至少20年才能成材，在古代多用於佛像雕塑、寺廟建築或是造船之用。
